Erin Fornoff – Banjo & Bovril Festival 2019

Erin Fornoff, an American-born, new Irish citizen from the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina.

Called a ‘story-telling poet’ and ‘as close to music as poetry gets’ her work moves seamlessly between heartfelt poems on the meaning of home, nature and nostalgia, to topical themes such as family separation, #metoo, and finding hope amidst America’s darkening storm.

She has performed her poetry at hundreds of festivals and events including twice at Glastonbury Festival and a national Irish tour with poet Hollie McNish.

She has featured on BBC3 The Verb, Hozier and James Taylor concerts, and her poems have been included in Best New English and Irish Poets 2016. Her poem ‘Hymn to the Reckless’ featured on posters and curriculum nationwide for Ireland’s National Poetry Day. Her work has featured in Best English and Irish Poets 2016, and won the Stanza Slam and Listowel Originals Competition.

She was included in the 2014 Poetry Ireland Introductions Series and released a chapbook, ‘Folk Heroes,’ the same year.

In 2015 she received an Arts Council bursary for her first novel Better People.

She was co-founder and Programme director for Lingo, Ireland’s first ever spoken word festival. Her debut collection Hymn to the Reckless (Dedalus Press 2017) was shortlisted for the Shine/Strong Award for best first collection and named by The Millions as a ‘Must Read.’

She has been commissioned by Dublin Castle for Culture Night national broadcast, by artist Joe Caslin for his ‘The Volunteers’ series, and for charities including Front Line Defenders, Dochas, Pieta House, and Inner City Helping Homeless.
